One of the most devastating hurricanes to enter the Gulf of Mexico hit our neighbors in Texas on August 25th, 2017. It wasn’t soon after that reports of devastation and flooding started to occur. These reports were all too familiar to the families of Louisiana who had weathered Katrina and the 1000-year flood. It was during both floods that the citizens of Texas came to Louisiana’s aid bringing much needed supplies and eager volunteers. After the devastation from Harvey, the team at Shamrock Pipe Tools decided to send out supplies and volunteers to help out the families impacted by this natural disaster.

On August 30th, while many cities in Texas were still flooding, Shamrock’s team formulated a plan to help out families who were displaced from their daily routines. After contemplating the problem at hand, the leadership group got in contact with the Cajun Navy and located a convoy heading to Texas. Without hesitation, Shamrock graciously offered two sprinter vans and filled them with basic necessities, such as food, water, diapers, etc.., Despite warnings that the route was dangerous and the possibility that both vans could be damaged, the company realized that humanitarian efforts came before any assets.

The convoy to Texas consisted of two sprinter vans from Shamrock and 8 other volunteers in trucks and trailers. The convoy left Baton Rouge early on August 31st and headed for Port Arthur, Texas. Though the hurricane had already moved north at this point, the water was still rising and flooding continued. Upon arrival in Port Arthur, the team noticed that flood waters were rapidly rising making many roads inaccessible. Due to the flooding, the Red Cross was unable to supply their emergency shelters with food and water. The convoy fought to find a way into the flooded city to supply food and water to the people taking refuge at the unsupplied shelters. Despite the conditions, the convoy safely made it to one shelter to deliver supplies.

Since 1932, SRECO Flexible has been providing pipe cleaning solutions favored by municipalities, contractors and government agencies worldwide. The company focus has been to deliver premium-built equipment along with the service and support our customers and end-users deserve.

In the early 1930’s, Harry R. Crane founded Flexible Sewer Rod Equipment Company which manufactured plumbing specialties. Among their product lines were 5/16 x 36” sectional steel rods that could be outfitted with various attachments for cleaning mainline sewers. This innovation is said to have brought sewer workers out of the manhole into a safer environment above ground. From there, the first rod power drive was developed and patented. The product line has expanded to include bucketing machines, high power rodding machines and high power flushing machines.

The company is known today as Sreco Flexible Inc., an industry innovator which has continuously served the marketplace for over 75 years. During their long history, they have consistently created, developed and expanded the product line to address the needs of sewer cleaning and video pipe inspection workers in both domestic and international markets.

Shamrock is proud to announce SRECO Flexible Inc., as a sister company. We appreciate their strength and durability in the marketplace and together our companies will strive to maintain the confidence and trust of our customers.

Although nozzles are named and grouped according to their most popular use, many have multiple applications. Ordering a variety of nozzles and associated tools will help you be ready to tackle any cleaning job. For those tough emergencies where you need a little extra assistance, you can contact us at (800) 633-7696. A product specialist will help you select the right tool for the job. (Always mention special conditions such as lateral line applications.)

A front jet is standard on all Shamrock nozzles except the rotator nozzles. Many nozzles may be ordered without the front jet on request.

Nozzles ordered for flow rates of 80 GPM or higher have 10 rear jets.

All 1/2″ nozzles can be used on 1/2″ or 5/8″ hose.

Proper nozzle selection depends upon the hose size, flow rate and pressure of your pumping equipment. Some nozzles are available only in a certain size range to assure top efficiency and long service. Please use the table provided below to assist when ordering.

Shamrock Pipe Tools has developed a winning formula for producing the quality sewer cleaning products that customers depend upon for the last 30 years. Shamrock nozzles, the heart of our products, have a reputation for increasing a contractor’s profit through dependability and efficiency. All of our products receive the same attention to detail in production. We use three main keys to guarantee this, and they are Innovative tested design, appropriate raw materials and Precise Manufacturing Processes.

Innovative, Tested Design
By listening to customers and monitoring the industry, SPT engineers anticipate needs and design new products. Every prototype is tested. Shamrock Pipe Tools uses a diesel powered test unit with a high capacity pump to take every new nozzle prototype beyond its working range to see what it will do. Manufacturing does not begin until the nozzle design has been proven at its rated level. Even poorly designed or manufactured nozzles can perform at their rated level once, but a tested new design performs at its rated level from the first to the last use.

Appropriate Raw Materials
Only the most appropriate metal is used in every product. The most appropriate material is not necessarily the least expensive. Shamrock Pipe Tools uses only tool quality metals such as knife-grade stainless steel and the hardest aluminum in its nozzles in order to guarantee designed performance and wear. For example, SPT tested various wear resistant materials for its jet inserts before finding the right product. SPT discovered that a carbide insert, properly manufactured, outlasts an insert made of any other material. Inserts examined after 10 years of service were found usable.

Precise Manufacturing Processes
Precise, computerized machining practices eliminate imperfections in each nozzle that can disrupt flow or degrade performance. After machining, Shamrock Pipe Tools heat treats many of the nozzle styles to guarantee tight, efficient streams of water that transfer all of the nozzle’s horsepower to the sides of a pipe where they are needed.

At Shamrock we pride ourselves on product knowledge with over 100 years of combined experience. Over the years we have found that often we are getting a lot of the same questions so we thought we would make a guide to help out. We have gathered the answers to the most common maintenance and safety questions we get.

Worn nozzles or orifices are your enemy. A worn out nozzle will not produce the correct pressure. Check nozzles often for wear.Know the output of your equipment’s pump. Remember that thrust is a factor of pressure and flow, with flow being the more important variable. Order nozzles that are calibrated to your machines actual output.

Keep the strainer on your unit clean! Watch your water supply. Check tanks for debris. Pump suction is where most of sewer jetter problems occur.

Inspect sewer hose for rips, tears or kinks. Repair if necessary.

Use a leader hose, manhole roller, and hose guide to reduce wear on hose.

Use a skid, or extension, when possible to extend life of nozzles and prevent them from turning into service laterals. Always use a skid on short nozzles.

To avoid burying the sewer hose in lines with large amounts of sand or other debris, clean the line in short runs, 25′ to 50′ depending on amount of debris.

Jet upstream against the flow to clean back to the machine with the flow. This will enhance the flushing action.

Sometimes the quickest way to clean a line is to use a combination of nozzles. For example, an 8″ sanitary line is blocked with heavy grease. Start by breaking the blockage up with the Grenade nozzle, and then complete the job by flushing the remainder of material out with a rotating nozzle. In large pipes, often running a nozzle, such as the Ultimate Penetrator, will loosen the debris up and allow a flushing nozzle to pull more debris back faster.

When cleaning a line with a root infiltration problem, jet out as much debris as possible before attempting to use the cutter. Use a smaller size blade to start cutting and finish with the correct size saw.

When using a protruding tap cutter, slow RPM will cut better than rapid RPM. Let the tool do the work. Maintain a steady flow and RPM. Flush cut and broken pieces out before proceeding.

Incorrect repairs may cause serious injury. It is extremely dangerous to test nozzles, root cutters, etc. outside of the sewer pipe.
